Alfredo del Mazo, governor of the State of Mexico, said that it is estimated that by 2020 in Mexico there will be a total of 450 companies in the aerospace industry, multiplying the more than 60,000 people currently employed in just over 330 companies that already operate from Mexico, which would represent an increase of 36%.
“The aeronautical industry is one of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s bets for the future of Mexico,” said Graciela Márquez Colín, minister of the Secretary Economy (SE).
Mexico is home to important companies such as Boieng, Bombardier, Airbus, BAE Systems, Safran, among others, and ranks 12th in exports worldwide. The future of the industry looks promising, but it depends to a large extent on the success of the supply chain, because according to estimates of the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA), the local aeronautical sector currently only develops 5% of the total supply chain manufacturing, unlike the automotive industry where the percentage is 65%.
The companies that have chosen Mexico as a destination to invest, recognize that Mexican labor is very good, although in education they still have deficiencies, and although the industry in Mexico has grown an annual average of 17% during the last 15 years, there is no supply chain or local suppliers and to conform it turns to be the great industry’s challenge, stressed Craig Breese, president of Honeywell Mexico.
